Your year, estimated.
Flights, driving, transit, home, diet and shopping — by country. Factors from UK DESNZ · Ember · Our World in Data (2026).
What goes into your footprint.
For most people the largest parts of a personal footprint are flights (a single long-haul return can outweigh a year of driving), driving, home energy (heating and electricity), diet (a meat-heavy diet is roughly twice the footprint of a vegan one) and the goods and services you buy. The calculator turns these into an annual estimate in tonnes of CO₂e — the global average is about 4.7 tonnes per person, and a Paris-aligned target is roughly 2.3.
Common questions.
How do I calculate my personal carbon footprint?
Pick your country, then enter your flights (short / medium / long-haul return trips), driving and fuel type, public transport, home electricity and heating, household size, diet and shopping. The calculator estimates your yearly CO₂e using your country’s grid intensity and published UK DESNZ, Ember and Our World in Data factors. It takes about a minute, and you can offset the result immediately.
What is the average personal carbon footprint?
The global average is about 4.7 tonnes of CO₂e per person per year, ranging from under 2 tonnes in many lower-income countries to 14+ tonnes in the US and Australia.
Which part of my footprint is biggest?
For most people it’s flights and diet. A single long-haul return flight can outweigh a year of average driving, and a meat-heavy diet is roughly twice the footprint of a vegan one.
Can I offset straight after calculating?
Yes — the result links directly to checkout with your tonnage pre-filled, so the whole flow takes about 90 seconds.
