For most people, the largest parts of a personal carbon footprint are flights (a single long-haul return can outweigh a year of driving), driving, home energy (heating and electricity), diet, and the goods and services you buy. The calculator turns these into an annual estimate in tonnes of CO₂e — the global average is about 4.7 tonnes per person.
For businesses, the picture is organised into Scope 1 (direct fuel and fleet), Scope 2 (purchased electricity) and Scope 3 (travel and supply chain). Switch the calculator to Business mode for a directional Scope 1/2/3 estimate.
Common questions.

The calculator estimates your annual CO₂e using your country’s grid intensity and published emission factors. Businesses can estimate Scope 1, 2 and 3 instead.
The global average is about 4.7 tonnes of CO₂e per person per year, but it ranges from under 2 tonnes in lower-income countries to 14+ tonnes in the US and Australia. A Paris-aligned target is roughly 2.3 tonnes per person.
