1. What cookies are

Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They help the site work, remember your preferences, and understand how it is used. This policy explains which cookies BuyCarbonOffsets.org (operated by Agochar Tech LLP) uses and how you can control them. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy.

2. Categories we use

We keep cookies and tracking to a minimum:

• Strictly necessary — required for the site, sign-in and checkout to function.
• Error monitoring — technical fault reports that let us fix breakages, particularly in checkout. No cookies, no advertising identifiers.
• Performance measurement — optional, consent-only sampling of how quickly pages and requests complete.
• Analytics — optional, consent-only: Google Analytics 4 (page views and a handful of named events such as “calculator result” and “purchase”) and, on this public site only, Microsoft Clarity (heatmaps and anonymised session recordings with text masked).
• We run no advertising, profiling or cross-site tracking cookies. Analytics never runs until you choose “Accept all”, and stops the moment you change your mind.

3. Strictly necessary cookies

These keep you signed in, protect the checkout, remember your cookie choice, and help prevent fraud and abuse. The Service cannot function properly without them, so they do not require consent and cannot be switched off through our banner.

4. Analytics, error monitoring and performance measurement

With your consent (“Accept all”) we run two analytics tools. Google Analytics 4 (Google LLC) records page views and a few named events — a calculator result, choosing an offset, starting checkout, a purchase or subscription with its amount and currency — with IP anonymisation on, Google Signals and advertising personalisation off, and Google’s Consent Mode set so advertising storage is always denied. It sets the _ga cookies. Microsoft Clarity (Microsoft Corporation) runs on this public site only — never on checkout, your account or the certificate-verification page — and produces heatmaps and session recordings with typed text masked; it sets the _clck and _clsk cookies. Neither runs until you consent, and both stop the moment you withdraw it, using the button in section 6 below.

We do use Sentry (Functional Software, Inc.) for error monitoring. When something breaks in your browser, Sentry receives a technical fault report: the error, the page it happened on, your browser and operating system version, and your IP address, which it uses to derive an approximate location and then discards. It sets no cookies. We have deliberately disabled its session-replay feature, so it never records the contents of a page, and we have turned off the option that would attach your name, email address or request contents to a report.

Sentry also offers performance measurement — timing a sample of page loads and requests. That measures behaviour rather than fixing a fault, so we only enable it if you choose "Accept all". Choosing "Essential only" switches it off, and it stays off until you change your mind.

We do not use either tool for advertising, remarketing or profiling, and we do not share the data with anyone else.

5. Third parties that receive data

Some essential providers may set their own cookies or receive data when their features are used — our payment processors (Stripe, Razorpay, PayPal) during checkout, our CDN/security provider (Cloudflare) to protect the site, Sentry for the error reports described above, and — only with your consent — Google and Microsoft for the analytics described above. Apart from analytics, these are limited to operating, securing and repairing the Service and are governed by those providers’ own privacy policies.

6. Your consent

When you first visit, our cookie banner lets you accept or decline optional measurement. Strictly necessary cookies are always active. Your choice is stored in a cookie named bco_consent for six months and is enforced by the site — declining genuinely turns optional measurement off rather than merely recording a preference.

7. Managing cookies

You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings, and most browsers let you refuse cookies or alert you when one is set. Please note that blocking strictly necessary cookies may break sign-in and checkout.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this Cookie Policy as our tools change. We will post the updated version with a new "last updated" date.
